Remodeling My Friend's Kitchen- One Room Challenge- week 1

Hey everyone! Today's post is a little different. I'm diving headfirst into the exciting world of kitchen renovations – not for myself but for my friend, Sara.

Sara's kitchen has been yearning for an update for ages. We're talking cramped cabinets, outdated appliances, and a layout that makes even the simplest meal prep feel like an obstacle course. Late last year she decided to turn that dream kitchen into reality, and we have been planning and organizing since. As we are closer to demo stage, I decided to participate in the One Room Challenge (ORC)!

For those unfamiliar, the ORC is a biannual event that brings together designers, DIYers, and enthusiasts to transform a space in just six weeks. Every Wednesday, participants share updates on their progress, creating a vibrant online community filled with inspiration, encouragement, and, of course, a healthy dose of friendly competition.

From Vision Board to Reality

Before diving in, we spent some quality time brainstorming Sara's dream kitchen. Pinterest boards exploded with inspiration, and countless hours were lost scouring through gorgeous kitchen designs. We settled on a modern boho aesthetic, with clean lines, warm wood tones, and pops of playful color.

Next came the nitty-gritty: measurements, budget planning, and the oh-so-important appliance hunt. Let me tell you, navigating the world of kitchen cabinets and countertops is an adventure in itself! But, we managed to put together a plan that ticked all the boxes – functionality, style, and (hopefully!) staying within budget.

The Journey Begins (and the Demo Hammers are going to Fly!)

A few before photos.

This week marks the official kickoff, and we're almost ready to start demolition. Yes, you read that right – the outdated cabinets are about to meet their match!

Over the next six weeks, I'll be sharing our progress right here on this blog, along with direct links to our ORC updates on Instagram. We'll document the highs (those perfect tile choices!), the lows (inevitable DIY mishaps!), and everything in between.

So, join us on this kitchen renovation adventure! We hope to inspire you, share some handy tips along the way, and maybe even offer a laugh or two with our kitchen renovation chronicles.

And who knows, maybe by the end of the six weeks, we'll not only have transformed Sara's kitchen but also created a space that sparks joy for years to come. Wish us luck!
